Be the Influence
Hey Guys! JoeyGaskin.com is officially under review. Since being back home, God’s really been on my case about using my voice to speak out. I can’t begin to tell you how many different times He’s sent someone my way to tell me just that. So from here on out expect to see more blog posts, more social, more everything!
When I was 15 years old, my parents drove me to Atlanta for my 1st singing audition. I was so nervous. I’ll never forget my mom told me to take a coat with me, but me being as stubborn as I am, I chose not to. And boy did I suffer the consequences. I stood outside in line in about 30 degree weather waiting to audition for Sean Combs and by the time I was up for my audition I had to pee like no other. My feet felt so cold they felt as if they had been stung by a million bees. When I opened my mouth to sing “Amazing Grace” I swear the weirdest thing came over me–almost like I forgot how to sing (i.e. Holy Spirit). I was mortified. Needless to say, that audition didn’t last long.
Afterwards, my parents took me to my great aunt Mary’s house. It was there in her living room, sitting on her couch that she looked at me and said, “Oh baby, don’t you worry. None of that was for you anyway. You’re meant to be a person of influence.” At the time I had no clue what she meant, but now… oh now! I know exactly what she meant. I wasn’t meant to praise the world or to chase the fortunes of this world. I was meant to praise God and to build the name of His house and His kingdom. So if you see the tag line, “Be the influence.” That’s where it comes from. And trust me, we’re just getting started! Leggo!
